CAN YOU SIGN MY BOOK? OR WRITE IN A DEDICATION TO THE PERSON I'M SENDING IT TO?
Of course! Every book is shipped from my studio, after all. Please describe what you want in the "Cart Notes" section during checkout.
DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?
Yes! The standard rate is $23.50 for international shipping, + about $5 per additional item.
CAN YOU VISIT OUR SCHOOL/LIBRARY/STORE/ETC TO DO A READING/BOOK SIGNING/ETC?
I'd be happy to! Let's schedule and plan an event together, please shoot me an email via the contact form below.
DID YOU REALLY ILLUSTRATE "AMELIA THE FLYING CAT"?
Yes, I'm formally trained in visual storytelling, I have a BFA in Sequential art from Savannah College of Art and Design. So basically... I tell stories through a series of drawings!
I'M AN ARTIST TOO! WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE?
I use non-photo blue lead pencils for my underdrawing, then pencil to “tighten up” my sketch, then I ink overtop. This is a traditionally used method by cartoonists. I personally prefer brush pens to ink with, but there are many options.
For Amelia the Flying Cat, I used copic markers and colored pencils to color my illustrations. For my next book, I plan on going completely digital with the iPad and Apple pencil, or using watercolor and gouache. Haven't decided yet, but those are my favorites.
HOW DID YOU SELF-PUBLISH YOUR BOOK?
It’s a VERY difficult process for a colored book, especially if you ever want to be in a bookstore one day without losing money for every book you sell! I’ve studied as much as I could about the “how to” by searching the net, but mostly I've learned by trial and error. This process has taken me years. I highly suggest submitting a story “submission” to an established publisher instead, unless you want to dedicate your life to making children's books like me.
Once I have more books published, I plan on opening an e-course to teach everything I've learned. My Book Club members will be first to know, so make sure you've joined!
